Germano & Associates, Inc. is a Subchapter S small business specializing in:
|
| o | Marine environmental monitoring |
| o | Contaminated sediment management |
| o | Dredged material characterization, management, & monitoring |
| o | Confined aquatic disposal management and monitoring |
| o | Sediment Profile Imaging (SPI) technology. |
G&A is the nation's foremost provider of SPI technology; Dr. Joseph Germano, one of the developers of the technology and the head of G&A, has pioneered the use of this innovative monitoring tool for a wide variety of dredged material monitoring programs throughout the entire United States as well as several international locations. During the past 20 years, our scientists have analyzed more than 30,000 sediment-profile images from fresh water, estuarine, continental shelf and slope, and deep-sea environments; even though sediment profile cameras are available on the commercial market for purchase by anyone, no one approaches the expertise of our company in this area. G&A has the newest technology available in equipment hardware, including the latest version of the Ocean Imaging Systems 3731 camera, producing images with even illumination over the entire field of view with no resulting shadows or hot spots. Our digital sediment profile cameras use a Nikon D200 camera inside the housing with a 10 megapixel CCD array and 12-bit RGB color. Images can be instantly downloaded and viewed in the field, and up to 300 high resolution images can be stored before the camera's memory capacity is exceeded. An Ocean Imaging Systems DSC6000 digital plan-view camera is also available to attach to the frame of the Sediment Profile Camera, allowing a surface shot of the sediment to be taken just before impact when the camera is 1-2 meters above the seafloor; with this option, clients have access to a 3-dimensional reconstruction of the seafloor.
All of G&A's cameras have been upgraded to be able to do time-lapse SPI deployments; in-place images can be recorded in one location at either 5 minute or 1-hour intervals. G&A has four digital 3731 cameras (one lightweight, hand-held profile camera for intertidal or shallow river/stream work with an aluminum housing, and three ship-deployed units with stainless steel housings rated to water depths of 1,000 and 4,000 meters), one digital deep-sea plan view camera (rated to 6,000 meters), and a Benthos 2216 deep-sea pinger (rated to 11,000 meters) for camera operations in deep water. During the past decade we have performed SPI surveys on the east, west, and Gulf coasts of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii as well as surveys in international waters (coastal waters in Hong Kong, Mexico, Italy, mainland China, off west Africa, and in the Caspian Sea). G&A is fully insured, carrying general and automobile liability insurance for $1,000,000 each occurrence ($2,000,000 aggregate) and professional liability for $1,000,000.
